To stay healthy and strong, teeth require special attention.

Caries, canker sores, gingivitis, abscess… Oral ailments are as frequent as they are difficult to bear. They can occur at any age, and lead to complications if not treated in time. How to limit the risk of being confronted with it? Simply take care of your teeth! Indeed, good oral hygiene is the best way to preserve the health of your teeth and avoid the most common problems. Here are 5 habits to incorporate into your routine.

– Brush your teeth twice a day

It is recommended to brush your teeth morning and evening , for a minimum of 2 minutes . With a soft-bristled brush, make circular movements from top to bottom, starting with the gums to go up to the top of the tooth. This will prevent the formation of dental plaque, responsible for tartar. If you have the possibility, you can also brush your teeth after lunch.

2 – Use dental floss

Once a day, use dental floss in addition to brushing your teeth. Finer, it will allow you to dislodge food residues that the toothbrush has not been able to remove, especially at the level of the most tight or difficult to access teeth. There are several types of dental floss: do not hesitate to ask your pharmacist for advice when making your choice.

3 – Make mouthwashes

Always in addition to brushing your teeth, you can do a mouthwash once a day – provided that it is suitable for daily use. Like dental floss, mouthwash has the power to reduce the adhesion of dental plaque to the surface of the teeth. It will also allow you to keep a fresh breath throughout the day.

4 – Limit the consumption of sugary foods

Sweet foods have the unfortunate tendency to accumulate on the teeth, thus promoting the formation of dental plaque and therefore the risk of cavities. This is the case of sodas , candies or sugar cubes , among others. For your dental health, it is therefore advisable to limit their consumption. You can also drink water between meals to help saliva clean your mouth.

5 – Go to the dentist once a year

Make an appointment with your dentist once a year : this is the best way to avoid dental problems and the complications that can result. For example, a cavity diagnosed late can be particularly difficult to cure.

You now have all the cards in hand to take care of your teeth. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask a healthcare professional.
